Configure asset layouts

Before using data products and data contracts, verify that specific items are included in the layouts of the Data Product, Data Product Port, and Data Contract asset types.

Prerequisites

You have a global role with the Product Rights > System administration global permission.

Steps

Data Product asset type

  1. Open the Data Product asset type:

    1. On the main toolbar, click Products icon > Settings.
    2. In the Operating model section, click Asset types, and then click the name of the asset type.
  2. In the left pane, click the relevant assignment, and then click Characteristics.
  3. Click Edit layout.
  4. On the Edit layout page, verify that the Output Ports Viewer widget is visible. If it is not visible, drag the widget from the left pane to the layout.
    Tip 
    • You can reposition the widget in the layout by using . You can also create a new section for the widget.
    • You can add other widgets such as Diagram and Data Categories.
      • Diagram: Shows a diagram view with the data product and its related assets.
      • Data Categories: Shows the data categories that are exposed in the data product. Data categories can be shown based on the data classification of the columns that are related to the data product.
  5. Optionally, configure the Output Ports Viewer widget:
    Tip By default, on the Data Product asset page:
    • A data product port card shows the name, status, and description of the data product port, and whether a data contract is linked to the port. If you want to show an attribute other than description, complete this step.
    • When a user clicks a data product port card, a preview of the port appears with access method, access instructions, port status, and data quality score. If you want to show different information, complete this step.
    1. Click Cogwheel icon.
      The Settings dialog box appears with the Widget card and Preview panel tabs.
    2. To change the attribute that is shown on a data product port card, on the Widget card tab, in the Text attribute section, click Close icon to remove the current attribute type, and then drag the required attribute type from the Available attributes section to the Text attribute section.
      Tip The Available attributes section contains only Text attribute types that are associated with the Data Product Port asset type. You can add only one Text attribute type.
    3. To change the information that is shown in the preview pane for a data product port, on the Preview panel tab, drag the required attribute types from the Available attributes section to the Text attributes section.
      Tip 
      • The Available attributes section contains the attribute types that are associated with the Data Product Port asset type.
      • You can reposition an item in the Text attributes section by using .
    4. Click Save.
  6. Click Publish.
    Your changes are published and applied to Data Product asset pages.

Data Product Port asset type

  1. Open the Data Product Port asset type:

    1. On the main toolbar, click Products icon > Settings.
    2. In the Operating model section, click Asset types, and then click the name of the asset type.
  2. In the left pane, click the relevant assignment, and then click Characteristics.
  3. Click Edit layout.
  4. On the Edit layout page, verify that the Data Contract Viewer widget is visible. If it is not visible, drag the widget from the left pane to the layout.
    Tip You can reposition the widget in the layout by using . You can also create a new section for the widget.
  5. Click Publish.
    Your changes are published and applied to Data Product Port asset pages. Data Product Port asset pages show data contract details.

Data Contract asset type

  1. Open the Data Contract asset type:

    1. On the main toolbar, click Products icon > Settings.
    2. In the Operating model section, click Asset types, and then click the name of the asset type.
  2. In the left pane, click the relevant assignment, and then click Characteristics.
  3. Click Edit layout.
  4. On the Edit layout page, verify that the Manifest ID and Version attribute types are visible. If they are not visible, drag the attribute types from the left pane to the layout.
    Tip You can reposition the attribute types in the layout by using . You can also create a new section for the attribute types.
  5. Click Publish.
    Your changes are published and applied to Data Contract asset pages. Data Contract asset pages show current, active versions and manifest IDs of their associated manifests after initialization or an update.
