Setup overview

Before using Data Products, you need to set up your Collibra environment. The setup involves the following phases.

Phase Description

1. Configure asset layouts

Shows essential information, such as data contract details, manifest ID, and current version, on asset pages. You complete this phase by ensuring that:

  • The Output Ports Viewer widget is in the Data Product asset type layout.
  • The Data Contract Viewer widget is in the Data Product Port asset type layout.
  • The Manifest ID and Version attribute types are in the Data Contract asset type layout.

2. (Optional) Configure sampling

Enables data consumers to view sample data for a table that implements a data product port. You can browse the sample data on the Sample Data tab on the Data Product and Data Product Port asset pages. You complete this phase by ensuring that:

  • Sample data is configured.
  • The table for the Data Product Port asset is registered in the Data Catalog, and sample data is available for the table.
  • The user accessing the Data Product asset has permission to view sample data.

3. Configure data basket

Enables data consumers to add data products to their data baskets. This allows them to request access to the data that the data products expose. You complete this phase by ensuring that the data basket is configured.

To check out a basket containing a data product, consumers need to use the Request Assets Access workflow, which is available in Collibra Marketplace. This workflow allows them to choose the data product port that they want to request access to, during the checkout. The users who start the workflow need to also have a global role with the Workflows > Participate in workflow global permission, which requires a Contributor license.
