Business Glossary helps decision-makers understand their digital assets from a business perspective. It is a central tool for governing business terms, and it includes a configurable range of asset types, attributes, taxonomies, relations, and adoption statuses. It is also fully integrated with the technological assets and is supported by Collibra's core features, such as reporting, traceability, commenting, and workflows.

You can open Business Glossary if you have the Product Rights > Business Semantics Glossary global permission. To open Business Glossary, on the main toolbar, click

Create a glossary
Creating a glossary involves creating the Glossary domain and then adding business assets, such as acronyms and business terms, to the domain.
Prerequisites
- To create a Glossary domain: You have a resource role with the Asset > Domain > Add resource permission on the community where you want to create the domain.
- To add business assets to the Glossary domain: You have a resource role with the Asset > Add resource permission on the domain.
Steps
- Open Business Glossary.
- On the main toolbar, click
. - In the Create dialog box, on the Organization tab, select Glossary.
- In the Create domain dialog box, enter the required information, and then click Create.
Field Description Community The community where you want to create the domain.
Domain name A name for the new domain. You can enter multiple names to create multiple glossaries at once. - On the main toolbar, click again.
- In the Create dialog box, on the Suggested tab, select the type of the asset that you want to create for the glossary.
- In the Create asset dialog box, enter the required information, and then click Create.
Field Description Domain The Glossary domain that you created earlier.
Asset name A name for the new asset. You can enter multiple names to create multiple assets at once.
The new asset is created and added to the new glossary.
Associating business assets with physical assets
To connect your business context to your physical data, you can use the semantic layer, which is available through Guided Stewardship. The semantic layer acts as a bridge between business meaning and technical implementation. It introduces intermediate assets, such as data attributes, that lie between your business assets and your physical assets.
For example, to associate a business term with a column, you can relate a data attribute to a business term, giving the data attribute business meaning, and relate the same data attribute to a column, connecting the data attribute to the physical data source. Together, these two relations form a path (business term → data attribute → column) that links your business and physical layers.
