About domain types

A domain type is a property that defines the purpose and content of a domain. Through assignments, it specifies which asset types the domain can contain, enforcing consistency and structure for your data governance efforts. For example, a Business Glossary domain type would primarily contain assets of the Business Term type, while a Data Quality Rules domain type would contain Data Quality Rule assets. This association ensures that domains are used for their intended purpose and helps organize your Collibra environment.

Certain asset types can be created only in a specific Collibra application and in a specific domain type. For example, you can create Validation Rule assets only in a Validation Rule domain and KPI assets only in a Report Catalog domain. In an asset type's assignment, you can find the domain type required for the asset type.

Certain domain types are managed by Collibra, meaning they are system-managed and you can't edit their public ID, delete them, or change their parent. You can, however, edit their names (for example, to translate them into your preferred language).
