About asset types

Asset types are fundamental building blocks in Collibra. They act as templates to define the structure and behavior of your assets. An asset type ensures consistency by determining the following through one or more assignments:

Certain asset types can be created only in a specific Collibra environment and in a specific domain type. For example, you can create Validation Rule assets only in a Validation Rule domain and KPI assets only in a Report Catalog domain. In an asset type assignment, you can find the domain type required for the asset type.

Certain asset types are managed by Collibra, meaning that they are system-managed and you can't edit their public ID, delete them, or change their parent. You can, however, edit their names (for example, to translate them into your preferred language).

Viewing asset types and their usage

The Asset types table in the Operating Model settings contains both out-of-the-box and custom asset types. You can find the asset types, relation types, and complex relation types in which a specific asset type is used by selecting the row containing the asset type and then clicking Used In.

In the latest user interface, you can identify the product associated with an asset type by checking the Product column. The Product column also shows if the product is active in your environment.
