Working with the Lifecycle tracker

The Lifecycle tracker is a widget and an integral feature of asset lifecycle management. It allows you to:

  • Monitor the evolution of your AI models and AI use cases.
  • View the assessment history for the AI model or AI use case asset, including the statuses of all assessments.
  • Start an assessment that hasn't yet been started.
  • Add activities, such as a new assessment of a specific type, decision records and decision gates, and sign-off activities.
  • Move the AI model or AI use case to the next lifecycle stage.

Note To include the Lifecycle tracker on asset pages, you need to select the Enable lifecycle management option on the asset type page. This option is currently available only for the AI Model and AI Use Case asset types, and it is selected by default for both asset types.

You can use the layout editor to reposition the Lifecycle tracker on the asset page, to suit your content layout needs. For more information, go to Tailored asset page.

By default, when you register a new AI model or AI use case, certain out-of-the-box assessment types are automatically added to the Lifecycle tracker. You can, however, configure which activities you want added automatically to the Lifecycle tracker when an asset of a certain type is created. For complete information, consult the topics in the section Configuring AI Governance asset types.

Lifecycle tracker elements

No. Element Description

Stage Stepper tabs

Shows the lifecycle stages of the AI model or AI use case. For example, the default lifecycle is: Ideation, Development, and Monitoring.

The lifecycle stages that are shown in the Stage Stepper are determined by the asset statuses configured in the Core path section of the Lifecycle activities tab of the asset's global assignment. For complete information, go to Configure the lifecycle stages of AI Governance assets.

Tip You can click the tabs in the Stage Stepper to view the activities that were completed in a previous lifecycle stage, or those awaiting action in an advance stage. Doing so does not change the lifecycle stage or status of the asset.

Activities table

The collection of activities that have been added for the use case.

  • Status: The status of the activity. For example: Assigned, Not Started, and Draft.
Decision records always have the status Completed; however, you can always edit any decisions that you have added
  • Activity: The assessment template used for the assessment, the type of decision that was added, or the name of a sign-off activity.
  • Owner: The owner of the assessment, as defined in the Owner field of the Properties sidebar of the assessment. For decisions and sign-offs, the Owner is the user who added the activity.
  • Assignees: For assessments, the users or user groups specified in the Assignees field of the Properties sidebar of the assessment. For sign-offs, the users or user groups specified in the Assignees field when adding a sign-off. For decisions, there is no assignee.
  • Last Update: The date on which the activity was last edited and saved.
  • Actions: For assessments, click Start to start conducting the assessment. For sign-offs, click View or to view the sign-off instructions and take action. There are no action options for decisions.
Note The Start button is not shown if you don't have a global role that has the Assessments > Conduct Assessments global permission.

Add Activity button

Allows you to add assessments, decision records, and sign-off activities to the Lifecycle tracker.

Note You can't independently add decision gates to the Lifecycle tracker; they are automatically added when you use the Move to <stage> button to advance or revert the lifecycle stage of the asset.

Move to <stage> button

Click Move to <stage>, to advance or revert the lifecycle stage of the asset.

We recommend that you complete all assessments and sign-offs before advancing to the next stage, but this is not enforced. Any incomplete assessments are carried over to the next stage. Sign-offs are not carried over to the next stage.
