The Search widget on a dashboard works like the global Search box. If you enter something in the Search box of a Search widget and press Enter, it takes you to the same search page as the global Search box, with identical search results. However, unlike the global Search box, the Search widget doesn't show any recently viewed resources or top results as you type.
