Enabling semantic layer features (in preview)

Important This topic is applicable only to the latest UI.

To allow stewards to have access to the semantic layer features in Stewardship:

  1. Enable the semantic layer features settings.
  2. Give users the required permissions.

Enable the semantic layer features

The base semantic layer features in Stewardship become available when the Semantic Model Editor setting in the Stewardship section in Collibra Console is enabled.

If you want users to get help from Collibra AI to create and maintain the semantic layer, enable the Semantic Model Generation setting in the Stewardship > AI Features section in Collibra Console. If you already enabled Collibra AI Copilot, you can also activate the semantic layer agents using the AI Agents settings page.

Important The use of Collibra AI isn't available in Collibra Platform for Government and Collibra Platform Self-Hosted environments.

Prerequisites

Steps

  1. Open the DGC service settings for editing:
    1. Open Collibra Console.
      Collibra Console opens with the Infrastructure page.
    2. In the tab pane, expand an environment to show its services.
    3. In the tab pane, click the Data Governance Center service of that environment.
    4. Click Configuration.
    5. Click Edit configuration.
  2. In the Stewardship section, enable the settings.

    Semantic Model Editor

    An option to enable or disable additional Stewardship features.

    This setting affects only the latest user interface.

    • True: Semantic layer features become available in the Stewardship application.
      • With the required permissions users can view and manage the semantic layer, which is based on Data Model, Data Entity, and Data Attribute assets.
      • With the required permissions users can connect the physical data layer with the semantic layer using the Semantic Assistant.
      • The Stewardship application shows the available features using the following submenus: Organization, Semantic Layer, and Data Classification.
    • False (default): The Stewardship application provides access to the following features: Organization, Business Dimensions, Tags, Physical Data Connector, and Data Classification.
    Semantic Model Generation

    An option to enable or disable Collibra AI features in the Stewardship application to allow the creation of suggestions for the semantic model from physical data assets.

    If you already enabled Collibra AI Copilot, you can also activate the semantic layer agents using the AI Agents settings page.

    Important The use of Collibra AI isn't available in Collibra Platform for Government and Collibra Platform Self-Hosted environments.
  3. Click Save all.

Give users the permissions to use the semantic layer features

To have semantic layer features and actions available, you need the following permissions.

Click the Generate entities and attributes button in the Semantic Models page.

Product rights > Data Stewardship Manager

Product rights > Guided Stewardship

Asset > Add on the domain that contains the selected Data Model asset

Asset > Attribute > Add on the domain that contains the selected Data Model asset

Responsibility > Add on the domain that contains the selected Data Model asset

Accept suggested Data Entity and Data Attribute assets in the Semantic Models page.

Product rights > Data Stewardship Manager

Product rights > Guided Stewardship

Asset > Add on the domain that contains the selected Data Model asset

Asset > Attribute > Add on the domain that contains the selected Data Model asset

Click the Semantic Mapping button in the Semantic Assistant page.

Product rights > Guided Stewardship

Asset > Attribute > Add on the selected Table asset
Accept the suggested data attribute for one or more columns in the Semantic Assistant page.

Product rights > Data Stewardship Manager

Product rights > Guided Stewardship

Asset > Attribute > Add on the Column assets for which you want to accept the suggested mapping.

Create descriptions using Collibra AI from the Semantic Assistant page.

Collibra AI for descriptions must be enabled.

Product rights > Data Stewardship Manager

Product rights > Guided Stewardship

And all permissions needed to add descriptions using Collibra AI

Asset > Attribute > Add on the selected Table asset

Asset > Attribute > Add on the Column assets for which you want to generate description

Classify assets from the Semantic Assistant page.

Data classification must be enabled

Product rights > Data Stewardship Manager

Product rights > Guided Stewardship

And all permissions needed to classify data
