Merge data classes

Important  This feature is available only in the latest UI.

You can merge data classes via the Data Classification page in the Stewardship application.
For example, you can merge data classes like "Email", "E-mail", and "email address" into a single data class called "Email".
Merging data classes can help you maintain a well-organized list of data classes. It also allows for better results when Collibra performs the data classification.

Steps

  1. On the main toolbar, click Products icon, and then click Stewardship.
  2. Click the Data Classification tab.
  3. Select the data classes that you want to merge.
  4. Above the table, click Merge.

  5. Select the data class in which you want to merge the selected data classes.
You can choose one of the selected data classes or create a new one.
  6. Click Merge.
The merge process starts and a message informs you when the data classes have been merged.
    During the merge process:
    • All classification rules of the selected data classes are copied to the target data class.
      Note
      • If an identical classification rule already exists in the target data class, the classification rule is skipped.
      • None of the other properties of the selected data classes are moved to the target data class.
    • All data classifications that connect assets to a merged data class are updated to point to the target data class.
This includes connections to Data Attributes, Data Categories, and Data Concepts.
    • The selected data classes, except for the target data class, are deleted.

The merge process fails if this results in a target data class with too many rules or too many values. This happens, for example, if the target data class contains more than 25 classification rules.
