Tags
A tag is a piece of metadata that is used to label and categorize an asset. In addition to strictly governed metadata, you can use tags to categorize assets more flexibly.
You may notice that some assets are tagged with keywords. These tags are clickable and they help you easily find similar assets.
You can use the same tag for all assets that belong to the same category of a business. For example, assets relevant to the finance department can be tagged with finance. You can then locate these assets by searching for the tag or clicking the tag directly on an asset page. When you click a tag on an asset page, you are taken to the search page where you can find all assets with that tag.
Although tags are stored in the Collibra database, they aren't strictly governed by Collibra.
- Tags can be added only to assets.
- Adding, editing, or deleting a tag from an asset doesn't change the asset's last modified date.
Benefits
Some of the benefits of tags are as follows:
- You can search for assets with a specific tag by clicking the tag on an asset page or on the Tags page.
- You can use the Tag filter on the search page to refine search results.
- You can use tags in filter criteria.
- You can import and export tags.
Tag name characteristics
The characteristics of tag names are as follows:
- Tag names are case sensitive. For example, you can enter the following tag names: Car, car. However, tag suggestions aren't case sensitive. For example, entering car can provide the following suggestions: Car, car.
- Tag names can't contain spaces.
- Tag names can contain underscores (_).
- A tag name can contain up to 250 characters.
