About Data Marketplace categories

Data Marketplace categories are custom groups of assets defined based on specific business needs. They offer a structured and intuitive way to organize and filter data, ensuring that data consumers can find and access relevant data.

You can create and manage categories by:

  • Defining a category's name, icon, and description.
  • Enabling and disabling a category.
  • Changing their availability to all users or to specific global roles or groups.
  • Configuring filters to define which assets are included in a category.
  • Define the order of the categories.

All these options allow you to control category access and streamline navigation for data consumers.

Data consumers can navigate between category pages using the left sidebar and the landing page. On a category page, data consumers can view all assets within the category that they have access to, along with the category's name and description. For more information, go to Navigating and searching in the new Data Marketplace experience.

About the Categories page in Data Marketplace settings

In the Data Marketplace Categories page, you get a high-level overview of each defined category. The information includes:

  • An icon which allows you to move the category to another location.
  • The category icon.
  • The name of the category and the description.
  • An indication of who can view the category if the category is active.
No icon means the category is visible to everyone. An icon means the category is locked for a specific user audience.
  • An indication of the number of assets in the category.
  • An indication of the status of the category. The category can be active, meaning it is visible, or deactivated meaning the category is not available on the Data Marketplace landing page and in search.

From the Data Marketplace Categories page, you can:

  • Open and edit the category by clicking the hyperlink.
  • Enable or disable the category through the switch.
  • Delete the category by clicking the More icon and selecting Delete category.

The order defines the order in which the categories are shown to the data consumers. You can automatically order the categories by applying a sort order through Sort > A-Z. You can also move the category to a new location in the category order by dragging and dropping the category via the Move icon.
