About the Lifecycle tracker

Note There are two versions of the Lifecycle tracker: a legacy version and a new version. The images in this topic show the new Lifecycle tracker. For more information, go to Lifecycle tracker versions.

The Lifecycle tracker is an asset layout widget and an integral element of the Lifecycle management feature. It allows you to:

Important To show the Lifecycle tracker on asset pages, certain conditions need to be met. For more information, go to Include the Lifecycle tracker on asset pages.

You can use the asset layout editor to reposition the Lifecycle tracker on the asset page to suit your content layout needs. For more information, go to About asset layouts.

By default, when you register a new asset of certain AI Command Center asset types, certain out-of-the-box assessments are automatically added to the Lifecycle tracker. You can, however, configure which activities you want added automatically to the Lifecycle tracker when an asset of a certain type is created. Lifecycle tracker versions

The Lifecycle tracker is available in two versions. The version shown on asset pages depends on the product you are using.

Product Lifecycle tracker version
AI Governance Legacy Lifecycle tracker.
AI Command Center New Lifecycle tracker.
All other asset types New Lifecycle tracker (in preview as of the June 2026 release).

The legacy Lifecycle tracker has been available for AI Governance asset types since an earlier release. As of the June 2026 public preview, the new Lifecycle tracker is available to AI Command Center users and to all other asset types. The rest of this topic describes the new Lifecycle tracker.

Note Smart check activities are only supported in the new Lifecycle tracker. They are not available in the legacy Lifecycle tracker.

Lifecycle tracker elements

This section depicts and describes the new Lifecyle tracker.

Stage stepper

Shows the lifecycle stages of the asset. For example, the default lifecycle of an AI use case is: Ideation, Development, and Monitoring.

The lifecycle stages that are shown in the stage stepper are determined by the asset statuses configured in the Core phase section of the Lifecycle tab of the asset's global assignment. For complete information, go to Configure the lifecycle stages for an asset type.

Tip You can click the tabs in the stage stepper to view the activities that were completed in a previous lifecycle stage, or those awaiting action in an advanced stage. Doing so does not change the lifecycle stage of the asset.

Show Lifecycle activities button Opens the Lifecycle activities dialog box.

Lifecycle activities pop-up

Shows the lifecycle activities that are configured for each stage of the asset.

The "Required" property next to an activity indicates that the activity must be completed before you can advance the asset to the next lifecycle stage.

Click More icon next to an activity for context-sensitive information and action options.

Note To start an assessment via the Lifecycle tracker, you need a global role that has the Assessments > Conduct Assessments global permission. If you don't have this permission, the Start assessment button is not shown.

Allows you to add assessments and sign-off activities to the Lifecycle activities dialog box. smart check activities configured in the asset type's assignment also appear here, but cannot be added manually.

Status button

Click Status X of Y: <status>, to advance or revert the lifecycle stage of the asset.

You can only advance to the next lifecycle stage once all required lifecycle activities are complete. Required activities have the value "Required" in the column Priority.

Note The button is shown only to users that have a resource role with the Asset > Lifecycle Management > Update Status resource permission on the community or domain in which the asset is stored.

Include the Lifecycle tracker on asset pages

The following conditions must be met for the Lifecycle tracker to be shown on asset pages:

The Activate Lifecycle tracker option is switched on in the asset type's global assignment or relevant assignment.

It depends on the asset type.

By default, the option is switched on for the following asset types:

  • AI Agent
  • AI Agent Version
  • AI Model Version
  • AI Use Case

For all other asset types, the option is switched off by default.

The Lifecycle tracker widget is included in the asset type layout.

By default, the Lifecycle tracker widget is included in the asset page layouts for all eligible asset types and subtypes.

The asset lifecycle has started.

Depending on how the asset was created, you might have to manually start the asset lifecycle.

Advancing an asset through its lifecycle

After all required activities in the Lifecycle tracker have been completed, you can click Status X of Y: <status>, to advance to the next lifecycle stage.

Note The button is shown only to users that have a resource role with the Asset > Lifecycle Management > Update Status resource permission on the community or domain in which the asset is stored.

In the Lifecycle tracker, required activities have the value "Required" in the Priority column.

If necessary, you can use the Status button to revert to a previous lifecycle stage. The status of the asset is updated to match. Any incomplete assessments that are not identified as "Required" are not carried over to the next stage.

Tip Click the various stages in the stage stepper to view the lifecycle activities that were completed in previous stages and those that require attention in advanced stages, without advancing or reverting the asset to another lifecycle stage.
