Manage attributes

You can add, edit, and delete attributes from an asset.

Add an attribute

You can add an attribute to an asset to describe the asset from the asset page or from an asset view in table display mode.

Prerequisites

You have a resource role with the Asset > Attribute > Add resource permission, either directly for the asset or inherited from a parent community or domain.

Steps

  1. Open the asset page.
  2. In the attribute type field, enter a value.
    Tip 
    • If the attribute type isn't shown, switch on the Show empty values option.
    • If the attribute type supports multiple values, the Add New button appears to allow you to add more values.
  3. Click Check icon.
  1. Open the asset page.
  2. Click Add a Characteristic.
    The Add a Characteristic dialog box appears.
  3. In the Add a Characteristic dialog box, click the Attributes tab.
    The Add <attribute type> dialog box appears.
  4. Enter the value of the attribute.
    Example If you want to add a Description attribute, enter the description that you want to add to the asset.
  5. Click Save.
  1. Open a view in table display mode.
  2. In the attribute type column of the asset to which you want to add an attribute, double-click the cell.
    The cell editor opens.
    Tip 
    • If the column isn't shown, add it to the table.
    • If the attribute type supports multiple values, the Update <attribute type> dialog box appears instead, with the Add Value button to allow you to add more values.
  3. In the cell editor, enter a value.
    Tip 
    • If you want to add the same attribute to all the assets that are currently visible in the table, select the Apply to all visible rows checkbox.
    • If you want to add the same attribute to specific assets, select the checkboxes next to those assets, and then select the Apply also to the <number> selected rows checkbox.
  4. In the cell editor, click Check icon.
    Tip If the dialog box is open, click Save.
    1. Open a view in table display mode.
    2. If required, add the column of the attribute type to the table:
      1. Above the table, to the right, click Fields.
      2. Click Select fieldsAttributes.
      3. Select the relevant attribute types.
      4. Click Update.
      5. Click Save.
    3. Hover your pointer over the cell, and then click .
      The cell editor appears.
    4. Enter the required information.
    5. Do one of the following:
      If you want to change...do...
      the current row only: Click .
      all visible rows:
      1. Click Apply to all visible rows.
      2. Click .
      selected rows:
      1. Select one or more rows.
      2. Click Apply to all selected rows.
      3. Click .

Edit an attribute of an asset

You can edit an attribute of an asset from the asset page or from an asset view in table display mode.

Note 

Certain attributes can't be edited directly from an asset page, such as the following:

  • Description from source
  • Source tags
  • Profiling results
  • Technical data type in the At a glance sidebar

Prerequisites

You have a resource role with the Asset > Attribute > Add or Asset > Attribute > Update resource permission, either directly for the asset or inherited from a parent community or domain.

Steps

  1. Open the asset page.
  2. In the attribute type field, click the current value, edit it, and then click Check icon.
    1. Open the asset page.
    2. Double-click the attribute. or click .
    3. Edit the attribute.
    4. Click outside of the field to save the changes.
    5. Click Save.

Delete an attribute from an asset

You can delete an attribute from the asset page or from an asset view in table display mode.

Prerequisites

You have a resource role with the Asset > Attribute > Remove resource permission, either directly for the asset or inherited from a parent community or domain.

Steps

  1. Open the asset page.
  2. In the attribute type field, click the current value, clear it, and then click Check icon.
  1. Open the asset page.
  2. At the end of the line, click .
    A dialog box appears.
  3. Click Delete.
  1. Open a view in table display mode.
  2. In the attribute type column of the asset whose attribute you want to delete, double-click the cell.
    The cell editor opens.
    Tip 
    • If the column isn't shown, add it to the table.
    • If the attribute type supports multiple values, the Update <attribute type> dialog box appears instead.
  3. In the cell editor, clear the value.
    Tip 
    • If the dialog box is open, click Check icon next to the values.
    • If you want to delete the same attribute from all the assets that are currently visible in the table, select the Apply to all visible rows checkbox.
    • If you want to delete the same attribute from specific assets, select the checkboxes next to those assets, and then select the Apply also to the <number> selected rows checkbox.
  4. In the cell editor, click Check icon.
    Tip If the dialog box is open, click Save.
  1. Open a view in table display mode.
  2. If you don't see the column of the attribute type, add it to the table:
    1. Above the table, to the right, click Fields.
    2. Click Select fieldsAttributes.
    3. Select the relevant attributes.
    4. Click Update.
    5. Click Save.
  3. Click next to the attribute that you want to delete.

    The Delete <attribute> dialog box appears.
  4. Click Yes.

    The attribute field is now empty.
