Request access to asset data

Note Roles in Data Access are not the same as global or resource roles.

You can request access to the underlying data in an asset that is linked to Data Access, for yourself or on behalf of others. This action generates an access request.

Prerequisites

The asset is linked to Data Access.

Steps

  1. Open the asset page.
  2. Click Actions > Request Access. If the Request Access option does not appear on the Actions menu, it means that the asset is not yet linked to any Data Access role.
  3. In the Request access dialog box, enter the required information.
    FieldDescription
IdentitiesThe Data Access identities that need access. This field shows your name by default.
GroupsThe Data Access groups that need access.
    How long is access needed

The date and time when the requested access, if granted, is revoked. By default, this is set to one calendar month from today. The reviewer can adjust this date before implementing access.

If the selected beneficiary has preapproved access to the linked role, the following options appear in this field:

    • Pre-approved [grant period]: Uses the grant period that is set in the role for preapproved access. Access is automatically granted for the preapproved period.
    • Longer time period: Requests a longer period than what is preapproved. Access is automatically granted for the preapproved period, but for the remaining period, an access request is generated.
Request reasonA business justification for your request.
  4. Click Request access (or Next).
  5. Optionally, if applicable, complete the following sections to request exceptions on column masks and row filters.
Tip The following sections are shown only if a data object in the linked role is protected by a column mask or row filter.
    SectionDescription
Request access to unmasked data (optional)

Shows the column masks that exist for the columns that are included in the linked role. If you need to see unmasked data in the columns, select the corresponding column masks, and then click Next.

Request access to filtered table rows (optional)

Shows the filter rules that exist for the rows that are included in the linked role. If you need to see rows that are otherwise hidden by an active filter rule, select the corresponding filter rules, and then click Request access. If a table has an active row filter and you do not select any of its filter rules, your queries return zero rows for that table, even if your role grants you overall access on the table.
