About asset types

Asset types are fundamental building blocks in Collibra. They function as templates to define the structure, behavior, and lifecycle of every asset in your environment.

What an asset type defines

Through one or more assignments, an asset type defines the following elements.

Element Description
Characteristic types Attribute types, relation types, and complex relation types that can be assigned to the asset type.
Domain types Domain types to which the domains of the assets can belong.
Lifecycle statuses

Statuses that the assets can have. For more information, go to About Lifecycle management.

Articulation score rules Rules that contribute to measuring the completeness of the assets.

Data quality rules (quality score aggregations)

Rules that contribute to the quality of the assets.
Validation rules Rules that evaluate the validity of the assets.

Status editing
  • Indicates whether the lifecycle statuses for an asset type can be customized.
  • Final type
  • Indicates whether an asset type is restricted from having further subtypes or scoped assignments.
  • System managed Indicates whether an asset type is managed by Collibra.

    System-managed asset types

While all system-managed asset types are OOTB, not all OOTB asset types are system-managed.

If an asset type is system-managed, you can't move or delete it or edit its public ID. You can, however, edit its name and description (for example, to translate a name into your preferred language).

If an asset type isn't system-managed, it can mean one of the following:
