Publish notebook (Data Notebook asset)

Publishing a notebook creates a Data Notebook asset, making the notebook content visible to others who have access. Once published, the asset can be updated at any time by republishing the notebook.

Prerequisites

  • You have a global role with the Product RightsData Notebook global permission.
  • You are assigned a responsibility on the Data Notebook Catalog domain with a resource role that has the following resource permission: AssetAdd

Steps

  1. Open the notebook:
    1. On the main toolbar, click Products iconData Notebook.
    2. Click the notebook.
  2. Click Publish.
    The Publish as an Asset dialog box appears, if the notebook wasn't previously published.
  3. Enter the required information.

    Asset nameA name to identify the asset.
  4. Click Publish.
    A Data Notebook asset is created. Your notebook is now visible to others. If the notebook was previously published, a new asset isn't created. Instead, the existing Data Notebook asset is updated.
Tip To go to the Data Notebook asset page, in the notebook, click Open Asset Details.

Data Notebook asset

A Data Notebook asset is the asset that is automatically created when you publish a notebook. Its asset type is Data Notebook, its domain type is Data Notebook Catalog, and its status depends on the Data Notebook asset type assignment.

The Notebook tab on the Data Notebook asset page shows the content of the notebook, including its queries. The notebook content is shown only if you have a resource role with the following resource permission: AssetDataView notebook content. If you want the queries to be hidden from the Notebook tab on the asset page, in the associated notebook, click and clear the Show SQL on Asset view option.

On the Data Notebook asset page, the Data section on the Summary tab shows the databases that were queried in the notebook. The Data Notebook asset uses the following relation type to show the queried databases: "Data Notebook queries / is queried by Database".

Viewing a Data Notebook asset from a related asset

When viewing an asset that is related to a Data Notebook asset, you can see the full contents of the Data Notebook asset without leaving the asset page. To do so, in the relation table of the asset page, click Notebook icon next to the Data Notebook asset name. This opens the Data Notebook preview sidebar, showing all associated queries, charts, and tables.
