Ingestion results per Tableau role
This topic addresses ingestion results based on your role and permissions in Tableau.
By default, the Tableau integration uses both the Tableau REST API and the Tableau Metadata API. You can, however, limit the ingestion by using only the Tableau REST API.
Critical configuration requirements
The Metadata API must be enabled to:- Create a technical lineage and allow the automatic stitching of Column assets to Tableau Data Attribute assets.
- Harvest owner information for Tableau projects, workbooks and data models.
If you ingest a Tableau dataset that doesn't have any attributes, asterisks (*) are shown as the Tableau Data Attribute asset names in Collibra.
Verify if your Tableau environment has Data Management, as this impacts how the Metadata API returns information.
Tableau role checklist
To help you verify your configuration, here is a summary checklist based on the ingestion results for each Tableau role.
| If you use this role... | These data objects are ingested in Data Catalog | Technical lineage? |
|---|---|---|
| Site Administrator | All Sites, Projects, Workbooks, Views, Data Sources, and Owners. | Complete, including automatic stitching. |
| Explorer (Can Publish) | Items the user can access: Projects, Workbooks, Views, Data Sources, and Owners. | Complete, including automatic stitching. |
Explorer | Projects, Workbooks, Views, and Data Sources. | Lineage is not available for this role. |
| Viewer | Limited to Projects, Workbooks, Views, and Data Sources. | None. Owner information is also missing. |
