Configure a smart check activity for an asset type

Administrators can configure smart check definitions as lifecycle activities in an asset type's assignment. When an asset advances to a lifecycle stage that has a smart check activity configured, the check runs automatically and the result is displayed in the Lifecycle tracker.

Only smart check definitions that are assigned to the current assignment are available for selection.

For information on how stewards view and resolve smart check results, go to About smart check activities.

Note Smart check activities currently run in optional mode. A failed smart check does not prevent an asset from advancing to the next lifecycle stage. For more information, go to Optional mode behavior.

For complete information on configuring lifecycle activities, go to Configure lifecycle activities for an asset type.

Requirements and permissions

  • You have both:
    • A global role with the Product Rights > AI Governance global permission.
    • A global role with the Product Rights > System Administration global permission.
  • The Activate Lifecycle tracker option is switched on in the asset type's assignment.
  • At least one smart check definition is assigned to the relevant assignment.

Steps

  1. On the main toolbar, click Products iconCogwheel icon Settings.
    The Settings page opens.
  2. Click the Operating model tab.
    Operating Model settings are shown.
  3. In the Asset types table, click the relevant asset type.
The asset type overview page opens.
  4. In the tab pane, expand the Global Assignment tab or the tab of the relevant assignment, and then click Lifecycle.
    The Lifecycle page opens.
  5. Click Add activity, and then select Add smart check.
The Add smart check dialog box appears.
  6. Enter the required information.
    FieldDescriptionMandatory?
Smart check definitionThe smart check definition to use as the lifecycle activity. Only smart check definitions assigned to the current assignment are available for selection.Yes
StatusThe lifecycle stage (status) at which you want the smart check to run. Only statuses in the active (core) phase are available.Yes
    Required activity

Switch on to indicate that this smart check activity is required.

Note Because smart check activities currently run in optional mode, a "Required" smart check will still not block lifecycle stage transitions, regardless of the check result. For more information, go to Optional mode behavior.
    No
  7. Click Add smart check.
  8. Click Save at the top of the page to save your changes.
When a new asset of the relevant type is created, the smart check activity is automatically added to the specified lifecycle stage in the Lifecycle tracker.

Optional mode behavior

Smart check activities currently run in optional mode. The following table describes how this affects lifecycle stage transitions.

Scenario What happens
Smart check passes when a lifecycle transition is triggered. The transition completes. The smart check result is shown as a success in the Lifecycle tracker.
Smart check fails when a lifecycle transition is triggered. The transition still completes. The smart check result is shown as a warning in the Lifecycle tracker. The transition is not blocked.
A smart check is configured but optional mode is disabled for the asset type. The smart check does not run. The lifecycle transition proceeds normally.
Note Even if a smart check activity is marked as "Required" in the assignment configuration, it will not block lifecycle transitions while optional mode is in effect.
