Asset type groups
Asset type groups allow multiple asset types to be grouped based on a shared function or purpose. If you have a global role with the System administration global permission, you can customize asset type groups to include specific asset types, depending on your organizational needs.
Asset type groups help make relation types more meaningful by enabling relation types to be defined at a group level. Rather than configuring relations solely between individual asset types, you can set relation types between entire asset type groups, providing clearer and more relevant connections between related assets.
Asset type groups have a global assignment, which defines a set of relation types. When you add an asset type to a group, the assignments of the asset type and any descendant asset types inherit the group's relation types.
- Asset type group assignments contain only relation types and no other characteristic types. Therefore, you can't add a column with attributes to a relation table that references an asset type group.
- You can't create your own custom asset type groups.
- You can't add an asset type group as the source or target of a custom relation type.
- You can choose which asset types to add to an asset type group, based on your organizational needs.
Viewing all asset type groups
The Asset type groups table in the Operating Model settings contains all asset type groups. You can also find the asset types and relation types in which a specific asset type group is used by selecting the row containing the asset type group and then clicking Used In.
