Asset type groups
Important This feature is available only in the latest UI.
Asset type groups allow multiple asset types to be grouped based on a shared function or purpose. Users that have a role with the System administration global permission can customize them to include specific asset types, depending on their organizational needs.
Asset type groups help make relation types more meaningful by enabling relation types to be defined at a group level. Rather than configuring relations solely between individual asset types, you can set relation types between entire asset type groups, providing clearer and more relevant connections between related assets.
Asset type groups have a global assignment, which defines a set of relation types. When you add an asset type to a group, the assignments of the asset type and any child asset types inherit the group relation types.
- Asset type group assignments contain only relation types and no other characteristic. Therefore, you cannot add a column with attributes in a relation table that references an asset type group.
- You cannot create your own custom asset type groups.
- You cannot add asset type groups as the source or target of a custom relation type.
- You can choose which asset types to add to an asset type group, based on your specific organizational needs.
