About Agent Contracts

Important Agent Contracts are available in private preview. Details in this topic are based on pre-release designs and an early build, and are subject to change before general availability.

An Agent Contract is a written set of rules, in natural language, that defines what an AI agent is allowed to do, what data it can access, and what outcomes it is responsible for. A Contract turns informal expectations about agent behavior into a reviewable, auditable record that Guardian Agents can enforce at runtime.

Each rule in a Contract is a plain-language statement, for example:

  • "The AI agent should redact any credit/debit card numbers in the customer's message before processing it, replacing them with '[card-redacted]'."
  • "If a refund approval is for more than $200, the AI agent must stop and get human sign-off before proceeding."
  • "The AI agent should never call any tool that deletes an account (anything starting with 'delete_')."

Example scenarios

A customer-support agent is authorized to access customer account information, but not employee HR data. If a Contract rule establishes that boundary and the agent attempts to access an HR dataset, Guardian identifies the action as a violation and applies the appropriate response, before any sensitive information is exposed.

A procurement agent is authorized to search approved suppliers and prepare purchasing recommendations, but not to execute transactions above a defined threshold. A Contract rule captures that limit, and Guardian intervenes if the agent attempts an action that exceeds it.

Agent Contracts page

The Agent contracts item in the AI Command Center sidebar navigation shows an overview of all Contracts in your environment:

  • Guardian pass rate: The action pass rate across all agents with Guardian enabled, over the last 30 days.
  • Issues: The number of Guardian issues logged over the last 30 days.
  • Agents using Guardian: The number of AI Agent assets with Guardian enabled, out of the total number of AI Agent assets.

Below these metrics, a table lists each Contract by name, showing the number of rules it contains, the number of agents it is applied to, and when and by whom it was last updated.

Global and additional contracts

A Global contract applies automatically to every AI Agent asset in your environment. You can also create additional, more narrowly scoped contracts, for example to apply a specialized set of rules to a specific group of agents.

An AI Agent asset's Contract tab shows the combined set of rules that currently apply to that agent, drawn from the Global contract and any additional contracts applied to it.

Creating and editing a contract

Contracts are authored and updated using an AI assistant, rather than through a form in the AI Command Center interface. On the Agent contracts page, the Editing instructions panel provides a prompt that you paste into your AI assistant's chat. The prompt directs the assistant to a Collibra-hosted Contract setup skill, which then asks you questions and accepts uploaded policy documents to derive contract rules. After you answer the skill's questions, a new version of the contract is pushed to AI Command Center via MCP.
