Sorting search results by attribute type

Tip This chapter is relevant to users that have a global role that has the System administration global permission.

You can sort search results by the following criteria:

  • Relevance
By default, search results are sorted in order of descending relevance.
  • The Name field
  • The Last Modified field
  • A single attribute type

Adding applicable attribute type

Sorting by relevance, Name or Last Modified requires no configuration. To sort search results by attribute type, however, you first have to add the applicable attribute types, in Settings.

Note

Save in search filters

When you create or edit a search filter, the sort settings are part of the saved configuration.

Note It's possible that you or another user created a search filter that includes sorting by an attribute that no longer exists in your Collibra Data Intelligence Cloud environment. In this case, an error message informs you that the attribute is invalid. The error message includes the UUID of the invalid attribute, so that you can delete it from the search filter. Invalid attributes are ignored when sorting search results.

Limitations

  • If a resource has more than one attribute of a given type and you sort by that attribute type, only the first indexed attribute is taken into account, regardless of the value, meaning the ordering of any such resources is random. Adding a new attribute of the same type might change the order, as can reindexing your Collibra environment.
  • All resources that do not have the attribute by which the search results are sorted always appear at the bottom of the results.
  • If a search filter has sort settings in the saved configuration, and you download the search filter via REST API, the sort order reverts to the default, meaning in order of descending relevance.
  • If, via the UI, you apply a search filter that includes sort settings by an attribute type that has either been deleted from the sort options in Settings, or no longer exists in your Collibra environment, the sort order reverts to the default, meaning in order of descending relevance.
  • The time required to sort search results depends on several factors, the most significant of which are the number of assets and attributes.
Tip Use focused search text and facets to refine the search results. This will help improve sort time.
