Assign or unassign a validation rule from an asset type
Assign a validation rule to an asset type
Assigning a validation rule to an asset type ensures data quality and consistency by enforcing specific criteria for the attributes of assets. These rules help prevent errors and inconsistencies. This leads to more reliable data, improved data governance, and increased trust in the information used for critical business processes and decision-making.
You can assign a validation rule to an asset type by adding it to the asset type assignment. This allows assets of the given asset type to be validated against the validation rule, if the asset is in the scope of the assignment.
Prerequisites
- You have a global role with the Product Rights > System administration global permission.
- A Validation Rule asset exists.
Steps
- Open the asset type.
- In the left pane, click the assignment.
- In the left pane, click Validation rules.
- Click Add a Validation Rule.
- In the Add a Validation Rule dialog box, select the validation rule to assign to the asset type.Tip
- Validation rules in gray are already assigned to the asset type.
- Repeat this step for every validation rule you want to assign.
- Optionally, change the order of the validation rules.
Unassign a validation rule from an asset type
You can unassign a validation rule from an asset type. Unassigning a validation rule doesn't delete the validation rule.

You have a global role with the Product Rights > System administration global permission.
Steps
- Open the asset type.
- In the left pane, click the assignment containing the validation rule you want to unassign from the asset type, and then click Validation rules.
