Data Marketplace permissions

In Data Marketplace, you can be a data consumer or an administrator. The following table describes the global roles and global permissions you can have in Data Marketplace and the privileges they provide.

Important

Choose an option below to explore the documentation for the latest user interface (UI) or the classic UI.

Note If you have only the Catalog global permission or the Sysadmin global role in the classic UI and want to use Data Marketplace in the latest UI, you need the Data Marketplace global permission. The Catalog permission or the Sysadmin role does not grant access to standalone Data Marketplace or Data Marketplace in Search in the latest UI.
User Global role or permission Privilege
Data Consumer

You have a global role that has the Data Marketplace global permission.

If Data Marketplace isn't enabled in your environment, you do have access to Data Marketplace in Search. This means:

  • You can see search tabs, such as the Data Marketplace tab, on the search page.
  • You can search for assets if you have a view permission on the asset.
  • You can start the actions assigned to Data Marketplace by the administrator.

If Data Marketplace is enabled in your environment, you have access to both Data Marketplace in Search and standalone Data Marketplace. This means:

  • You can access standalone Data Marketplace.
  • You can see search tabs, such as the Data Marketplace tab, on the search page.
  • You can search for assets and access the asset preview if you have a view permission on the asset.
  • You can start the actions assigned to Data Marketplace by the administrator.

Note Users with the Data Marketplace permission don't see the classification tags in the Auto-generated abstract or the Column browser in the asset preview. To see those, you need the Catalog permission.

Administrator

You have the Sysadmin global role and a global role that has the Data Marketplace global permission.

If Data Marketplace isn't enabled in your environment, you can configure Data Marketplace in Search. This means:

  • You have the same privileges as the Data Consumer.
  • You can define Data Marketplace-specific settings such as scope and actions.

If Data Marketplace is enabled in your environment, you can configure both Data Marketplace in Search and standalone Data Marketplace. This means:

  • You have the same privileges as the Data Consumer.
  • You can define all Data Marketplace-specific settings such as scope, actions, and the landing page.
  • You can access the configuration of the filter tabs in standalone Data Marketplace.
Tip If you use API to access standalone Data Marketplace and Data Marketplace in Search, you need to have the Catalog or Data Marketplace global permission, or the Sysadmin global role.
