Important
  • This use case is valid for Collibra Platform 2025. 11 and newer and Edge 2025.10.84 or newer.
  • This use case is available only in the latest user interface.

Technical lineage is a detailed lineage graph that shows how data transforms and flows from source to destination across its entire lifecycle. It enables you to easily discover where tables and columns are used and how they relate to each other.

Fivetran is a fully managed ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) platform that automates the entire process, including setup, schema management (schema drift), and incremental updates. Collibra Data Lineage uses Fivetran REST APIs to retrieve lineage from Fivetran. The resulting technical lineage does not include transformation details.

Currently, technical lineage for Fivetran is supported for the following data sources:

  • Azure Synapse
  • Databricks
  • Google BigQuery
  • Google Sheets, MySQL
  • PostgreSQL
  • Redshift.

Support for additional data sources are to be added later.

To create technical lineage for Fivetran via Edge, ensure you have the required Fivetran permissions assigned with the Account Reviewer role, and create a Fivetran connection in Edge. When you add and synchronize the technical lineage for Fivetran capability, Collibra Data Lineage retrieves metadata from Fivetran and processes the metadata to generate the technical lineage. Collibra Data Lineage also automatically creates Data Element targets / sources Data Element relations between data objects in your data sources and assets in Data Catalog.
