Restrict relations for an assignment

You can restrict the target asset types available for an assigned relation type to one of its child asset types. This allows you to limit the possible assets for relations of that type to assets of the selected type and its descendants. By reducing the list of available asset types, you can minimize potential confusion and incorrect relations without having to create new relation types with more restrictive heads and tails.

Important When selecting an asset in the asset type filter, the available relations are restricted to assets of that type and any of its descendants.

In Collibra 2024.05, we launched a new user interface (UI) for Collibra Platform! You can learn more about this latest UI in the UI overview.

Use the following options to see the documentation in the latest UI or in the previous, classic UI:

  1. Open an asset type.
    1. On the main toolbar, click Products iconCogwheel icon Settings.
      The Collibra settings page opens.
    2. Click Operating Model.
The Operating Model settings page opens.
    3. On the Asset types tab page, click the name of an asset type.

      The asset type page opens.

  2. In the tab pane, click the name of the assignment.
  3. Select Characteristics.
  4. Above the table, to the right, click Edit.
  5. Go to the row of a relation you want to restrict.
  6. In the Asset Type Filter column, double-click to select one of the available asset types.

Note You can only apply asset type filters to relations that are not system-managed.

  7. Click Check icon to save your changes.
  8. Above the table, to the right, click Save.
Note

Not all Collibra features work with assignment relation restriction, as some take in consideration the relation definition instead:

  • Asset table views
  • Asset hierarchy tables
  • Data Quality Rule (legacy)
