Edit an assignment
You can edit an assignment, for example if you want to add a specific attribute type to assets of a certain type.
Note Some assignments have attribute types, relation types, or statuses that are system-managed and are not removable because they are required for the proper functioning of the Collibra Platform. For example, in the global assignment of the Column asset type, you cannot remove the assigned relation type that links it to a table.

Use the following options to see the documentation in the latest UI or in the previous, classic UI:
If you want hide a characteristic on asset pages, use the layout editor to remove that characteristic from the page. However, you cannot remove it from the assignment.
Prerequisites
- You have a global role that has the Product Rights > System administration global permission.
Steps
- Open an asset type.
- In the tab pane, click the name of the assignment.
- Do one of the following:

Characteristics
Assign one or more characteristic types to the asset type.- Select Characteristics.
- Above the table, to the right, click Edit.
- Above the table, to the right, click Add a characteristic.
The Add a Characteristic dialog box appears.
- Select the characteristic type that you want to add.Tip
- Use the filter to search for a specific characteristic type.
- Characteristic types in gray are already assigned to the asset type.
- Repeat this step for every characteristic type you want to assign.
The characteristic type appears at the bottom of the table.
- If required, restrict the target asset types available for an assigned relation type to one of its child asset types using the Asset Type Filter.
- If required, edit the minimum or maximum number of occurrences of the characteristic:
Option Description Cardinality Min The minimum number of occurrences of the characteristic.
Set this option to 1 or greater to make the characteristic appear automatically on the asset page.
Cardinality Max The maximum number of occurrences that you can assign to an asset type.
Leave this option empty if you don't want a limit to the maximum number of occurrences.
Note If you ingest assets via Edge set the maximum cardinality to at least 1.
- Above the table, to the right, click Save.
Domain types
Assign one or more domain types to the asset type.- Select Domain Types
- Above the table, to the right, click Edit Model.
- Select the checkboxes next to the domain types you want to assign to the asset type.
Tip To unassign a domain type from the asset type, clear the checkbox next to the domain type. Once unassigned, the asset type no longer appears in filters for asset views in domains of that domain type or their communities.
- Click Save.
Statuses
Assign one or more statuses to the asset type.- In the tab pane, click Statuses.
- Above the table, to the right, click Edit.
- Above the table, to the right, click AddAdd a Status.
- In the Add a Status dialog box, select the status to add to the asset type.Tip
- Statuses in gray are already assigned to the asset type.
- Repeat this step for every status you want to assign.
- Click Save.
Articulation
Assign one or more articulation rules.
Data quality rules
Assign one or more data quality rules.- In the tab pane, click Data quality rules.
- Above the table, to the right, click Edit.
- Above the table, to the right, click AddAdd a Data Quality Rule.
- In the Add data quality rule dialog box, select a data quality rule.
Tip
- Data quality rules in gray are already assigned to the asset type.
- Repeat this step for every data quality rule you want to assign.
- Click Save.
Validation rules
Assign one or more validation rules to the asset type.- In the tab pane, click Validation rules.
- Above the table, to the right, click Edit.
- Above the table, to the right, click AddAdd a Validation Rule.
- In the Add a Validation Rule dialog box, select the validation rule to add to the asset type.Tip
- Validation rules in gray are already assigned to the asset type.
- Repeat this step for every validation rule you want to assign.
- If required, change the order of the validation rules.
- Click Save.
