Request data access from asset

Note Roles in Data Access are not the same as global or resource roles.

You can request access to the underlying data in an asset that is linked to a Data Access role. This generates an access request for the data owners to review.

Steps

  1. Open the asset page.
  2. Click Actions > Request Access. If the Request Access option does not appear on the Actions menu, it means that the asset is not linked to any Data Access role yet.
  3. In the Request access to [asset name] dialog box, enter the required information.
    FieldDescription
Who needs accessThe Data Access identities that need access. This field shows your name by default.
GroupsThe Data Access groups that need access.
    Expires at

The date and time when the requested access expires. By default, this is set to one calendar month from today. The data owner can still change this date before granting access.

If the selected identity or group has preapproved access to the role, the expiration date that is selected in the role takes precedence over the date in this field.

ReasonA business justification for your request.
  4. Click Request access.
Tip If the Next button is shown instead, it means that a column mask or a row filter exists on a data object that is covered by the linked role. In this case, click Next, complete the following optional steps, and then click Request access.
    SectionDescription
Request access to unmasked data (optional)

Select the column masks for which you want to request unmasked access.

Request access to filtered table rows (optional)

Select the filter rules for which you want to request access. If a table is protected by a row filter and you do not select any of its filter rules, you will see zero rows from that table, even if your role grants you access on the table.

A confirmation message appears. An access request is generated for the data owners, and an email is sent to the requested beneficiaries when the access request is approved.
Tip It is also possible that you have been preapproved for on-request access to the linked role. In this case, your access request is automatically approved, and you are granted immediate access without any manual intervention.
