About authentication methods
To create technical lineage, you must authenticate with the Collibra Data Lineage service. Authentication is required to collect lineage metadata, process it, and upload it to Collibra.
Collibra Data Lineage supports the following authentication methods:
- OAuth authentication
- Basic authentication
OAuth authentication
Important OAuth authentication is not yet available for Collibra Platform for Government customers.
When you use OAuth authentication:
- You do not need to provide a DGC username and password when enabling technical lineage.
- Permissions are managed through the registered OAuth application.
- No additional permission configuration is required in Collibra.
Use this method for improved security and simplified configuration.
To use the OAuth authentication:
- Select the OAuth authentication type when you add a Technical Lineage Admin connection.
- When enabling technical lineage via Edge, leave the DGC user name and DGC user password fields empty.
- When configuring a data source, select the Technical Lineage Admin connection in the Admin connection field when you add the capability for your data source.
Basic authentication
When you use Basic authentication:
- You must provide a valid DGC username and password.
- The user must have the required permissions in Collibra.
- You are responsible for managing and maintaining these credentials.
To use the basic authentication:
- Enter the DGC username and password when enabling technical lineage via Edge.
- A Technical Lineage Admin connection is not required.
