Tailored asset page

Tailored asset page is a feature that enables you to perform quick in-page edits, simplifying the process of modifying characteristics on asset pages. It also enables administrators to customize the presentation of asset pages for all users. The feature provides a drag-and-drop layout editor to choose what is shown on asset pages of a specific asset type and assignment, and organize the content into logical sections. As an administrator, you can add and arrange various items such as widgets, attributes, relations, and complex relations. You can also create your own sections to group these items, giving you control over the page's structure, appearance, and visual hierarchy.

Types of layout

An asset type can have any one of the following types of layout.

Layout type Description Behavior
Dynamic

No specific page layout is defined for the asset type. The asset type automatically generates a dynamic layout based on the characteristic types in the asset type's assignment.

The dynamic layout is automatically applied to asset pages.

When characteristic types are added, removed, or reordered in the assignment, the dynamic layout is automatically updated and applied to asset pages.

Important If you manually update a dynamic layout, it permanently becomes a tailored layout. The asset type will then stop automatically generating the layout. You will need to manually update the layout each time you add or reorder the characteristic types in the assignment.
Out-of-the-box (OOTB)

The asset type has a default, OOTB layout defined by Collibra.

The OOTB layout is automatically applied to asset pages.

When characteristic types are added or reordered in the assignment, the OOTB layout needs to be manually updated for it to be applied to asset pages.

Note To manually update a layout means to edit and publish the layout. If you manually update an OOTB layout, it becomes a tailored layout. You can, however, restore the OOTB layout if needed.
  • If you add a characteristic type to the assignment, the layout isn't automatically updated. You need to manually edit the layout to include the new characteristic type and then publish it.
  • Similarly, if you reorder the characteristic types in the assignment, the layout isn't automatically updated. You need to manually edit the layout to move the new characteristic type to the required position and then publish it. This is because Collibra can't know the required position for the new characteristic type.
  • If, however, you remove a characteristic type from the assignment, the layout is automatically updated and applied to asset pages.
Tailored

The asset type's layout (either dynamic or OOTB) has been manually updated.

  • If you add a characteristic type to the assignment, the layout isn't automatically updated. You need to manually edit the layout to include the new characteristic type and then publish it.
  • Similarly, if you reorder the characteristic types in the assignment, the layout isn't automatically updated. You need to manually edit the layout to move the new characteristic type to the required position and then publish it. This is because Collibra can't know the required position for the new characteristic type.
  • If, however, you remove a characteristic type from the assignment, the layout is automatically updated and applied to asset pages.

Drafting and publishing

When you edit an asset page layout of a specific asset type and assignment, your changes are automatically saved as a draft. Once you publish the layout, it is applied to all the asset pages of that asset type and assignment, affecting how content is shown to users viewing those pages.

Important  A draft layout isn't user-specific, meaning that others can edit or publish your draft. As a result, the draft may be different when you return to it if someone else has edited it in the meantime.

System content

While you can customize most of the content in a layout, you can't edit any system content. System content is shown for certain OOTB asset types and is controlled by Collibra at a system level.
