The Search widget on a dashboard is similar to the global Search box. If you enter something in the Search box and press Enter, the search page that is shown is the same as the one that would be shown if you had searched via the global Search box, and the search results are also the same. The difference is that the Search widget, unlike the global Search box, does not show the most recently viewed resources or the top results as you type.
