Enable and configure technical lineage via Edge

Technical lineage via Edge is a beta feature. If you want to use technical lineage via Edge, use this information to enable the technical lineage for different data sources. You can also define some specific technical lineage settings on Edge. The technical lineage settings are general configurations that apply to all technical lineage features on Edge.

Prerequisites and permissions

The services configuration in the Collibra settings is the same as the DGC service settings that require the ADMIN role in Collibra Console. By default, you do not see this section. Contact Collibra support if you want to use this section.

Steps

Depending on your environment, follow this procedure either in the Services Configuration section of the Collibra settings or in Collibra Console:

  1. Open the Services Configuration page.
    1. On the main menu, click , and then click Settings.
      The Settings page opens.
    2. In the tab pane, click Services Configuration.
    3. Click Edit configuration.
Open the DGC service settings for editing:
    1. Open Collibra Console.
Collibra Console opens with the Infrastructure page.
    2. In the tab pane, expand an environment to show its services.
    3. In the tab pane, click the Data Governance Center service of that environment.
    4. Click Configuration.
    5. Click Edit configuration.
  2. In the Beta features section, select the value of True for the technical lineage features that you want to enable.

    Setting

    Description

Power BI and Tableau synchronization enabled

Enable Data Catalog ingestion and technical lineage for Power BI and Tableau via Edge.

    True
    Enable this feature.
    False
    Disable this feature.

Technical lineage via JDBC connection enabled

Enable the function of creating technical lineage for data sources that are connected by using JDBC connections on Edge. For a list of data sources that use the JDBC connection type, go to Supported data sources for technical lineage.

    True
    Enable this feature.
    False
    Disable this feature.

Technical lineage for SQL via folder, ETL tools, and custom lineage on Edge enabled

Enable the function of creating technical lineage for data sources that are connected by using Shared Storage connections and APIs. With this function enabled, you can create custom technical lineage and technical lineage for ETL tools and JDBC data sources that are connected by using Shared Storage connections. For a list of data sources and connection types, go to Supported data sources for technical lineage.

    True
    Enable this feature.
    False
    Disable this feature.
  3. In the Lineage on Edge section, enter the following information:

    Setting

    Description

DGC user nameThe user name to be used to ingest metadata in Data Catalog via Collibra Data Lineage service.
DGC user passwordThe password for the user to be used to ingest metadata.
    Collibra system name

Indicates whether you want to use the system or server name of a data source to match to the System asset that you create in the Data Catalog. Only set the value to True when you have multiple databases with the same name.

    False
The technical lineage via Edge ignores all system or server names that you specify for the Collibra system name settings when you add technical lineage capabilities. This is the default value.
    True
The technical lineage via Edge uses the system or server names that you specify for the Collibra system name settings when you add technical lineage capabilities.
Important If you use technical lineage via Edge and the lineage harvester to generate the technical lineage, the following values must be the same:

If the values are different, the technical lineage synchronization ends with an error.

Note When you create a custom technical lineage, this setting is ignored.

To use the system or server name of your data source to match the System asset in Data Catalog, specify the system data object in the tree and lineage sections in the custom technical lineage JSON file.

If you do not want to use the system or server name of your data source to match the System asset in Data Catalog, ensure that you do not add the system data object in the custom technical lineage JSON file.

  4. Click Save all.

What's next?

If you want to create a technical lineage for a data source that uses a Shared Storage connection, create a Shared Storage connection and prepare the external directory folder if needed.

If you want to create technical lineage for data sources that use a JDBC connection, add a technical lineage capability on the Edge site.
