Technical lineage for Tableau via Edge (Beta)
Technical lineage is a detailed lineage graph that shows how data transforms and flows from source to destination across its entire lifecycle. It enables you to easily discover where tables and columns are used and how they relate to each other.
Warning Collibra Data Lineage does not support proxy server authentication. Support for a proxy server in technical lineage via Edge is planned in a future release. You can use the lineage harvester to connect to a data source via proxy server to create a technical lineage.
During the technical lineage process, relations of the type "Data Element targets / sources Data Element" are automatically created:
- Between data objects in your data source and assets from registered data sources.
- Between ingested assets from BI sources and Data Catalog assets from registered data sources.
Before Collibra 2023.02, if you wanted to collect source code from Tableau and create these new relations, you had to prepare a configuration file and use the lineage harvester. With Collibra 2023.02, you can now integrate Tableau by configuring the lineage harvester as a capability on Edge. Benefits include:
- Seamless integration with Data Catalog.
- The Edge User Interface (UI), instead of Command Line Interface (CLI).
- Tableau connection from Edge, instead of lineage harvester drivers.
- Refresh metadata via the Tableau Server asset.
Technical lineage for Tableau via Edge is in public beta. You can still use the lineage harvester as a standalone app.
- You cannot work with Edge via the REST API.
- You cannot migrate from Jobserver to Edge to preserve the metadata that you manually added to the assets that you ingested via Jobserver.

Connecting to a proxy server is currently not supported for technical lineage via Edge. Support is planned for a future release.
