Create a connection to Power BI (Beta)
To retrieve data from Power BI, you have to connect to Power BI via the Edge site.
Warning Collibra Data Lineage does not support proxy server authentication. Support for a proxy server in technical lineage via Edge is planned in a future release. You can use the lineage harvester to connect to a data source via proxy server to create a technical lineage.
Prerequisites
- You have a resource role with the Configure external system resource permission, for example Owner.
- You have a global role with the Catalog global permission, for example Catalog Author.
- You have the necessary Power BI permissions.
Steps
- Open an Edge site.

In the main menu, click Settings.
The System tab page appears. -
In the tab pane, click Edge.
The Edge sites overview appears. -
In the Edge site overview, click the name of an Edge site.
The Edge site page appears.

In the main menu, click Settings.

In the Connections section, click Create Connection.
The Connection settings page appears. - Enter the required information.
Field Description Required Connection settings This section contains general information about the connection. Name The name of the connection. The name can be anything, as long as it is unique.
Tip The name that you provide here is the name you have to select in the Power BI connection field, when adding the Technical Lineage for Power BI (Beta) capability to the Edge site.

Connection parameters This section contains connection authentication information. Tenant Domain The domain associated with the Microsoft Azure tenant. This domain is either a default domain or a custom domain. For example, collibrapowerbi.onmicrosoft.com.
Note Usually, you can find a list of Power BI tenant or server domains in your Azure Active Directory or in the top right menu.

Authentication type The authentication type for your connection to Power BI. Enter one of the following:
- Service Principal
- Resource Owner Password Credentials

Application ID The unique ID of the Microsoft Azure Application (client) ID.

Username The email address of your Azure Active Directory user.
This field only applies if you entered Resource Owner Password Credentials in the Authentication type field.

Password/Secret key Your password (if you entered Resource Owner Password Credentials in the Authentication type field) or your secret key (if you entered Service Principal in the Authentication type field), for your Azure Active Directory user.
